Happy 90210 Day!

Today is 9-02-10 so of course I think we should celebrate one of my most favorite shows.  Not that nonsense that the CW has on right now, but good old school Beverly Hills, 90210.  I remember being a six year old watching it the very first season that it was on with my mom and continuing until that very sad day that it aired its last episode.

For my birthday this year my sister got me seasons 1 and 2 on DVD and I was hooked again.  So far I have rewatched the first 4 seasons and remembered why I loved that show so much the first time around.

I loved (still love) Dylan.  He was just so much more complex and interesting than all of the other characters.  Don't get me wrong though, I loved them all.  I was always Team Dylan and Brenda and thought the world was all out of whack when Dylan and Kelly got together while Brenda was in Paris and then all that back and forth with Brenda and Kelly, ugh.

Happy 90210 day to all!  Hope you all celebrated accordingly!

CeeCee Wilkes Part 3

So I missed posting last week, but I'm back for the 3rd set of questions.

1. Do you think Tim is the one sending the money?
That is one thing that I am really unsure of.  I feel like it probably is Tim since he has a history of sending money anonymously, but I also have a bit of doubt due to what a strong emphasis that the author put on no one else knowing where those that were underground were living.  It seems somewhat unrealistic that Tim would be able to locate CeeCee/Eve with her new name and new location since they aren't supposed to know where others are.  Also, if it is Tim I can't really figure out why he would do it or how he would still have that much money since while in hiding he likely had to distance himself from the family fortune.

2. So far, there's been a lot of discussion on CeeCee/Eve and her choices. What choice(s) would you make differently from her?

Well I would have said no way when approached to take part in this scheme, for one.  And then there was the whole issue of running away with someone else's baby.  I feel like I would have resisted that one too.

3. What do you like about Jack? Are there things about him that you don't like?

I like how Jack is so willing to accept Eve and her child and his willingness to include Cory in their dates.  He accepts that in order to have a relationship with Eve, he will also have one with Cory.

4. What are the differences between CeeCee/Eve's relationship with Tim and Eve's relationship with Jack?

Eve's relationship with Jack seems more like a normal, healthy adult relationship, whereas her relationship with Tim was based on him want to use her in his plan.  I do feel a bit sorry for Jack though, since we all know that Eve is not being completely honest with him and building any future that they will have on a stack of lies.

5. Do you think Eve is to blame for Cory's fears? What could she do, specifically, to help Cory feel like less of an outsider?

I don't think Eve is completely to blame for Cory's fears.  I'm sure the over-protectiveness did play some part in it, but to an extent some of Cory's issues seem like neuroses.

6. Do you think Eve appropriately answered Cory's questions about her father? Do you think Cory will question her father more as she grows older?

I think Cory will definitely question her heritage more as she grows older.  While Eve has tried to close all doors by saying he was dead and giving him a very common name, kids still want to know where they came from.  I can see Cory wanting to look into finding out more about her father.

CeeCee Wilkes Section 1

Erin and Rachel started a book club blog that I am participating in.  Since I didn't blog before, I thought now was as good of time as any to begin.  The book they have chosen is The Secret life of CeeCee Wilkes by Diane Chamberlain.  I could not put it down!  I finished the whole thing in like 2 days and am now skimming back through the weekly sections to be sure not to give anything away to those who may not be finished yet.

You can check out the book club blog here.

Below are my thoughts on the discussion questions.

1. What was your first impression of Tim?
I really wanted to like Tim.  He seemed like a good, kind guy.  He seemed to really try to build CeeCee's confidence and encourage her to be all that she could.  Once the age difference was established though, things got a little iffy for me where Tim was concerned.  I couldn't understand why a graduate school aged guy would want to be with a 16 year old girl unless he wanted to use her for something.  And then the author just cemented my feeling of uneasiness regarding Tim with the last lines of Chapter 3, "She was a completely honest person, though.  It would never occur to her that he was not."

2. If you were in CeeCee’s position, would you be willing to help your boyfriend in the way that she is willing to help Tim?
If I am answering this as the person I am today, the answer would be absolutely not, but when I try to put myself in CeeCee's position I can empathize.  Here is this older man who is paying attention to her and I'm sure she thought that the only way to keep him around was to do anything that he asked.  Tim was really the first male figure in her life and it almost seems like she was desperate to not lose that male attention and would do what she could to keep it.

3. Why do you think CeeCee is so eager to please Tim?
I think CeeCee found an acceptance from Tim that she hadn't had since her mother passed away.  Someone was interested in her and her life and I think she was willing to go to great lengths to not lose that.

4. Who do you think has it harder? Tim or CeeCee?
I have to go with CeeCee on this one.  She has no family while Tim still has Marty and his father.  Tim also has a better financial situation than CeeCee could ever imagine. Tim is in college and has all the potential in the world while CeeCee is working with the hope that maybe one day she will be able to go to college and make something of her life.

5. What character trait(s) about CeeCee stuck out the most to you in these first ten chapters?
I would have to say the main thing that stuck out to me was how naive CeeCee is.  She just seems entirely too trusting of everyone.  She also seems very compassionate and willing to help anyone in any way that she can regardless of how ridiculous and crazy the scheme may be.

6. Do you think CeeCee is as mature as she seems?
No, though she has been through a lot in her life, she is still just a 16 year old girl who needs love and attention.  I'm sure she is more mature than some other 16 year olds who led more privileged (for lack of a better word) childhoods, but you can tell she still has a lot of growing up to do.
